Louisville City FC made history on a chilly November 13. In addition to winning its first USL title with a 1-0 win against Swope Park Ranger, the club recorded its highest attendance in its history.
Official attendance for the USL Cup match was 14,456. And we’re not even sure how they managed that – the Louisville Slugger Field website lists maximum capacity at 13,131. Just by looking at the scenes during the match on ESPNU, most sections at the baseball-turned-soccer stadium were standing room only.
The atmosphere was rocking.
During his postgame interview amid the pitch invasion, goalkeeper XXX said, “I can’t even hear myself speak.”
That perfectly sums up the love for soccer in Louisville.
